At WWE Extreme Rules this Sunday, Raw has a choice between safe and expected, and different and unexpected. Here are five possible swerves for the show.

Extreme Rules goes down this Sunday in Baltimore. For the past several weeks, the Raw brand has been limping towards another pay per view with the same tired stories and booking. Ratings are down, and fans are mostly apathetic about what happens Monday nights.

But it’s not too late for the WWE flagship to turn things around. It’ll take some work, but you gotta start somewhere. A great way to start is by giving the fans something different than what’s expected.

It’s a tricky thing, swerving the audience. In this day and age, many fans try to be “in the know,” reading up on backstage news and rumors and trying to predict the direction a show will take. WWE would also be foolish to do something unexpected without some kind of reason or rationale. Just because something is different doesn’t necessarily make it better.

So with that in mind, let’s look at a few possible swerves for Extreme Rules. How can the creative team shock the audience without irrevocably harming Raw’s long term direction?
