Report: Dalton Castle Re-Signs with Ring of Honor
By Rob Furness
After rumors swirled that The Party Peacock, Dalton Castle, was garnering interest from WWE, it’s now being reported he has re-signed with ROH.
After speculation that Dalton Castle would leave Ring of Honor for the WWE, it’s now being reported he and ROH have reached terms on a new contract. According to PWInsider, Castle will continue with the company that he has been with since 2013.
As much as I enjoy Castle in ROH, there is no way WWE would allow him to continue his gimmick. At least, not in the upper midcard, where he belongs. Dalton Castle and the Boys would have a much harder time connecting with a broader, less-dedicated fan base. And WWE has been hit or miss with how they book gimmick-driven characters, preferring to push more grounded acts.
The move is smart for ROH. They’ve recently lost talents, including Roderick Strong, Austin Aries, Donovan Dijax, and Keith Lee. And the whispers of Adam Cole leaving for WWE are turning into shouts. By retaining Castle they have secured a young, up-and-coming talent that is in the prime of his career and who is a real draw. This move effectively stops the bleeding.
And by staying with ROH, The Party Peacock has essentially ensured his role as at least an upper midcarder. His stock can only rise from here. If his momentum continues, Castle could see a main-event push in his future due to the recent exodus of talent from Ring of Honor. He has already challenged for the ROH World Championship in a losing effort at Supercard of Honor XI.
