2. Prepare for the Future

The best way to see if a performer is ready for the big time is to put them on a big stage. Forcing someone into a sink or swim situation gives a real insight into their psyche – can they handle the pressure or not?

To date, Braun Strowman has only participated in a handful of pay per view matches. (It’s actually shocking how few pay per view matches he’s had.) Only once has he been in the main event – he faced Roman Reigns at Payback a few months back. For someone with the potential to be a mainstay in the main event, Strowman needs to get some more chances to prove he’s capable to handle the pressure.

SummerSlam, strangely, is probably the best pay per view to throw Braun into the deep end and see if he swims. It may be the second biggest show of the year, but that’s precisely why it’s perfect. Much of the appeal for fans is based on the spectacle of the show – people buy tickets or tune in simply because it’s SummerSlam. It doesn’t really matter who is in the main event, or who is being pushed.

Since SummerSlam is going to be a sellout and have a billion eyes on it through televisions, why not put Strowman in the main event? If he performs well – as I’m sure he would – the process can be repeated on a smaller scale show to see how much he pushes the needle. Because Braun is clearly going to be a big part of WWE moving forward, it’s necessary to give him the chance to thrive under pressure.
