WWE Universal Championship Match
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Samoa Joe
Well this has actually been pretty fun so far, huh? Between Joe’s calm, soothing demeanor before choking Paul Heyman unconscious, and then nearly doing the same to Brock, this actually is trending in the direction of a Samoa Joe victory. For years, Lesnar has been portrayed as a conquering beast that nobody can hang with and only loses if his opponent gets extremely lucky (you know, unless he’s wrestling a 50-year-old who hadn’t wrestled in over a decade). To see him show some chinks in his armor has been a welcome sight.
Like I mentioned in the opening, this is a dream match come true. Lesnar is a 5-time WWE world champion and Joe has won world titles in TNA, Ring of Honor, and NXT. Simply put, this is a legitimate heavyweight bout and should be really good for however long it lasts. It’s going to be a violent, hard-hitting affair that hopefully will live up to the massive expectations this match is already getting.
So yes, Joe looks like a serious threat but at the same time, I’m not naive. Lesnar has headlined the last 3 Summerslams and it seems pretty apparent that he’s going to make it 4. The WWE loves to use it’s marquee names on it’s largest stages and Lesnar is about as big as it gets. So yes, Lesnar is going to win but let’s just hope Joe walks out of the match a bigger star than he already is.
Winner and still champion: Brock Lesnar
