Tye Dillinger vs Aidan English

Kicking off Sunday’s in-ring festivities will be a match between two guys who are in very different places right now.  Poor Aidan English.  The guy is actually a solid talent with great mic skills and a hilarious shtick.  With his former partner, Simon Gotch, out of the picture, does English have a productive singles career ahead of him or will he, like Gotch, get the hook sometime soon?  If recent results are an indicator, expect the latter.

Dillinger, on the other hand, is clearly trending upwards.  Since his debut at the 2017 Royal Rumble match, “The Perfect 10” has been one of the most popular, yet under the radar superstars on Smackdown Live.  He’s been on a great run since jumping on board with the blue brand and he even parlayed that success into a match with WWE Champion, Jinder Mahal on the July 11th episode.  Although he was unsuccessful, it may have been a sign that the company thinks very highly of him and he may have some serious future plans.

So I guess the big question here is why is this match even happening?  Dillinger has slapped English around a handful of times over the past couple months, including one time on the Backlash pre-show in May.  One would think that would mean that English really needs a win here but I just can’t see that happening based on where both guys currently sit.  Plus, you you don’t have a guy make a decent run at the current champ just to lose a couple weeks later on the kick-off show to a guy with zero momentum.  I have a weird feeling that English might get a cheap win here, but that feeling isn’t strong enough to go that far out on a limb.  Dillinger wins again.

Winner: Tye Dillinger
