WWE SummerSlam 2017: It’s Too Early for Brock Lesnar to Lose
Brock Lesnar will face Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman & Samoa Joe for WWE Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
Earlier in the year, Braun Strowman was speculated to be facing Brock Lesnar in a one-on-one match after defeating Roman Reign at Great Balls of Fire. Things took a turn after Roman Reigns challenged the winner of Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe at this pay-per-view to a bout at SummerSlam.
Dave Meltzer mentioned how Vince McMahon, after seeing the low ratings has decided to shift scheduled Wrestlemania match between Reigns & Lesnar to SummerSlam, decided to have WWE Universal Champion featured weekly.
Instead, a Fatal Four-Way match was made, and will include Lesnar, Joe, Reigns, and Strowman. With this set, it is possible Lesnar will drop the title without taking the pin. But, is it far too early for the Beast Incarnate to drop the championship?
There’s no doubt Lesnar is money draw whenever he makes his way into the daily show or PPV. But, his lack of appearance on weekly episodes of Raw hurts ratings, as well as keeping top talent like Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose away from meaningful storyline & championship scene.
With Lesnar carrying the title until Wrestlemania 34, it becomes one-way traffic for his opponents, be it Joe, Seth Rollins or Finn Balor, who could be options to face Lesnar between SummerSlam & Wrestlemania.
Having a new champion makes it a possibility to add few others into title picture as well, which makes the product all the more exciting. Lesnar still can win the title at a PPV before Wrestlemania 34 & drop it at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
Even if this happens to be the Beast’s last run with the championship, he is still good enough to carry marquee spot at Wrestlemania 34. Should he not choose to re-sign with WWE after Wrestlemania 34, WWE could risk under-preparing its superstar to carry the company forward. There’s a trend to be heavily dependant on part-timers who don’t feature in Live events & very sparsely in weekly episodes of Raw.
A part-timer coming in does give euphoria but WWE can certainly sell out shows with the talent they have. These superstars will get the rub & be better prepared to carry the company on his back, once he is in the scene for title picture & trusted in high-profile matches, instead of being in mid card scene.
WWE certainly has been guilty of not trusting its talent in marquee spot for a while now. That’s while the hunt for next SuperCena is still on.
Reigns has been tried & tested with that spot. The crowd is yet to accept him, but there are others who could be money makers if booked properly. WWE needs to trust & back them going forward.
Wyatt, Rollins, Ambrose, Reigns & Strowman are the one to carry the company for next 7-8 years. They have the charisma, in-ring capabilities, and connect with the audience. Wyatt, for example, has babyface written all over him. It’s something Stone Cold Steve Austin has been vocal about.

So it isn’t too early for Lesnar to drop the title if future is kept in mind. But talent taking over Universal Championship at SummerSlam needs a solid booking keeping in mind he is the face of Monday Night Raw.
