WWE Raw: Why The Miz Needs To Lose The IC Title

A look at why creative needs to take the mid-card title away from WWE Raw’s The Miz for his own good, as he has done all that one could with the title.

In the world of professional wrestling, the Miz stands in his own corner. The present day Intercontinental Champion has come a long way since his reality show-based gimmick. The loud-mouth character of his has given way to a more polished veteran. The Miz has had some fantastic matches in the ring. Moreover, his promos seem to be getting better and sharper as they go on. Above everything else, he has been the one single individual who has brought prestige back to the IC title.

The title that was once an afterthought has remained to be a huge part of Miz’s rejuvenated character. The combination, along with Maryse, was something that worked both ways. The Intercontinental Title felt important for once, and the Miz generated great heat by holding on to it by any means. It seems like at the moment it is nearly impossible to keep him away from the IC Title for more than a few weeks. Be as it may, that might be a problem.

I have often made the case for why the Miz deserves to move on to the main event scene. He held together the mid-card scene on both Raw and SmackDown Live for a good while on his own. He deserves to be rewarded for his efforts with a main event run. Given enough time, Miz would make up for an excellent heel Universal champion for a time or two. Remember how he vented out his frustrations about Cena and Reigns a couple of weeks ago? That promo should be the beginning of a new chapter in his career. The Hollywood A-Lister’s rise to the main event scene must begin soon.

However, for this to happen, he needs to lose the IC Title. Yes, it means the world to him and has been pivotal in his success in recent years. However, his character, and, more importantly, his scathing promo have gotten so good that he deserves to be the WWE Universal Champion.

Moreover, now the characters of Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel, too, rely on Miz’s success. If the Hollywood A-Lister were to be a WWE champion or Universal champion, being his goons would benefit Axel and Dallas immensely.

If creative were to commit to this idea, they could eventually have Axel and Dallas compete for the tag titles as well. This would also allow them to showcase some direction and motive besides aiding the Miz.

Let me reiterate that the Miz is a great champion. However, he and his character have gotten too good to be a mid-card champion anymore. It’s time to bring him back to the big picture. If creative finds the main event scene on Raw to be too crowded, they could always move him back to SmackDown Live.
