WWE: Stephanie McMahon on SmackDown Live confuses things
By Harry Austen
After Kevin Owens brutally attacked Vince McMahon on the most recent edition of WWE Smackdown, Stephanie McMahon made an appearance. Which, for the most part, was confusing.
As Vince McMahan lays in the ring – bleeding from the forehead, following an attack from Kevin Owens – out came the Billion Dollar Princess. This was the first time in a while we’ve seen a Stephanie McMahon appearance. Just under five months, to be exact. The last time we saw the Raw commissioner was at WrestleMania 33, where she crashed and burned through a table, which consequently helped Seth Rollins defeat Triple H.

Now, I’m not trying to argue that Steph making a late save for her father doesn’t make sense, it does – from a character point of view. However, from a storyline and consistency point of view, it doesn’t.
I understand that John Cena is a free agent (whatever that means), but does that now apply to everyone on the roster? Once again, I acknowledge the preface, however, what does this mean moving forward? Will Stephanie McMahon be a constant figure on SmackDown, or, now that she’s made her return to WWE TV, will she be heading back to Raw?
It will most likely be the latter, meaning, was this appearance basically for nothing? Yes, it does add to the realism of McMahon being brutalised, however, it leaves a lot of questions that most probably will never be answered.
And even if Stephanie is back next week on SmackDown, how long will that last? Unless the Shane and Owens feud us set to be a long one, she’ll most likely be around for a few more week, then jump straight back to the flagship show.
Which leads to one final question: why did the WWE decide to have Stephanie appear? If anything, it just took away the focus from Kevin Owens, moreover, the focus was given to – at this point – an off-air personality.

Stephanie McMahon’s strange, potentially one off return to the blue brand, leaves a trail of questions. Ones which will more than likely never be answered. I’m not against WWE Superstars making appearances on other shows, conversely, they have to make sense to the storyline. And unless The Billionaire Princess is staying on SmackDown, her long-awaited return seems to have fallen flat – taking the sting out of one of the hottest storylines on SmackDown right now – and taking the limelight away from yet another superstar. Now that’s vintage Stephanie!
