The Mae Young Classic featured many of today’s top women wrestlers.  Many of them were known beforehand, but some made a statement.

The beautiful thing about the inaugural Mae Young Classic is that there was a healthy range of women that were participating.  Each woman was different in her own way – the Classic exemplified today’s woman and highlighted her the best way possible.  Even though many of the competitors have crossed paths before, each of their stories are different as was their backgrounds.  There were several women who were seasoned, and of course there were others that could use a lot of work.  Until the Classic, some weren’t even heard of.  At least for me that was the case.

It was thrilling to see those such as Mia Yim and Marti Belle in the Classic; they were remarkable in TNA’s Dollhouse stable with Taryn Terrell a couple of years back.  Both women are versatile and exotic in their own way which was showcased during the Classic.  Santana Garrett is another name that comes to mind that fans would love to see compete in WWE.  Many had hoped that she would have advanced further in the competition, but perhaps it’s not over for her just yet.

There were second generation competitors such as Rachel Evers, the daughter of Paul Ellering.  Evers has a good look and has much room for improvement.  Evers has a huge advantage with that learning tree to which her father has years of experience and expertise under his belt.  Tessa Blanchard is a third generation wrestler who not only is beautiful, but she knows how to wrestle with the best of them.

The redemption of Serena Deeb was an enjoyable highlight as well.  Deeb was best known for her time in the stable Straight Edge Society several years ago with CM Punk.  Deeb’s time with the company’s main roster was short and rather underutilized.  Deeb’s performance helped fans remember why she is still successful today.

Of course, the big story at the conclusion of the Classic was the rise of Shayna Baszler.  For WWE, having her amongst the 32 competitors was too good to pass up.  Thankfully, Baszler proved to fans that she has worked hard to get where she was at.  Both of her matches with Mercedes Martinez and eventual winner Kairi Sane exemplified that.  If anything else, Baszler earned fans’ respect at the end of the Mae Young Classic.

While it is up in the air about Baszler’s future with the company, other Classic competitors are signed to NXT.  Vanessa Borne is one of those women signed to NXT.  Borne has that star quality to her thanks to her good looks and past athletic background as a NFL Cheerleader.  Others that are signed include Bianca Belair and Lacey Evans.

Post Mae Young Classic, Taynara Conti has made a big splash on NXT.  The exotic Brazilian has joined the stable of The Undisputed Era.  This addition is a huge opportunity for her that’s exciting and surprising at the same time.  There are bound to be more appearances and concentration from those signed to NXT as well.

There is so much to talk about with each competitor that it would be fairly easy to write a novel about this topic.  Readers didn’t click on the story to read a novel, so for now I’ll elaborate on just six women who stood out the most.
