WWE Raw: Winners and Losers For September 18

Who were the big winners and losers on this week’s episode of Raw?

After WWE Raw on Monday, there are a handful of superstars who are seeing their stock rise. Likewise, a couple of superstars look like they’ve hit a rough spot. A pro wrestler’s career is always full of peaks and valleys, but in WWE they get magnified because of the number of eyes on them at all times.

With that said, let’s take a look at some superstars on the move after Raw this week.

Winners

  • Curt Hawkins

I know it sounds strange, but hear me out with this one. Hawkins is currently riding a 115 match losing streak. He’s like the anti-Goldberg. Somewhere, Barry Horowitz is wondering where his career went wrong.

But by taking ownership of this dubious streak, Hawkins shows that he’s bigger than wins and losses. Several weeks back on Twitter, Hawkins made mention of his streak hitting 100. And he seems to be having fun with it.

By playing his role and having fun with this, Hawkins shows he’s a bigger man than most in WWE. Getting play with it on Raw is just the next step, and I’m curious to see how far this goes. Plus, Hawkins is (probably) more concerned with his Create-a-Pro Academy on Long Island, so he’s got bigger things to focus on than a predetermined losing streak.

  • Bray Wyatt

For the first time in a long time, Bray Wyatt has some heat – and in a good way. He had a match on Raw this week with Dustin “Don’t Call Me Goldust Tonight” Rhodes – a rematch from last week. This time, Rhodes decided to forgo the face paint and face Wyatt “like a man.”

What makes Wyatt a winner this week besides winning his match? The fact that he looked insanely strong, powerful, and nearly unbeatable. That’s a good thing heading into No Mercy, with a big match against Finn Balor.

By hitting a Sister Abigail out of the blue – and scoring a victory with it – Wyatt proves himself to be a force to be reckoned with. Balor needs to be on his toes, because Wyatt is riding a big hot streak.

Losers

  • John Cena

I did not watch Dancing With The Stars Monday night – too busy writing the Raw review for the week. but with Nikki Bella a cast member this season, and John Cena absent from Raw, my guess is that he was supporting his fiance. That is certainly sweet of him, but there’s one issue: HE’S IN A WRESTLEMANIA WORTHY MATCH ON SUNDAY.

How can the company build to a match like this, and then have one of the participants absent from the go-home show? Roman Reigns did a pretty good job of carrying the segment by himself. But it would have worked out a whole lot better with Cena in the building.

More from Raw

In an “icon vs. icon” match, the whole point is that both competitors are equally important to the success of the company. If one can miss the final show before a pay per view, doesn’t that mean he’s not really as important as the other guy? Which lessens the importance of the match?

  • Alexa Bliss

In one of the worst tropes in pro wrestling, Alexa Bliss lost in a non-title match this week to Nia Jax. I’m a firm believer that a champion should win all their matches – unless they’re actually losing the title. I hate seeing champs lose when the title isn’t going anywhere, then win all their title matches. It’s known as “Wade Barrett Syndrome.”

Anyway, the non-title loss wasn’t the worst part of Bliss’s night. Bayley made her return, and after Bliss, Bayley, and Sasha Banks teamed up to knock Nia Jax down, The Goddess found herself on the wrong side of a two on one situation.

Add to thatˆ the fact that the fatal four way Raw Women’s Championship match at No Mercy is now a fatal five way, nd Bliss had a pretty bad night. With any luck, Bliss will be able to shake it off and put on a good showing at No Mercy.
