5. Cody Rhodes | PWI Rank: 33  | Age: 32

The son of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes – a visionary behind many of the new faces to WWE we all know and love today. Dusty no doubt had a profound impact on WWE. He was a star, and his son deserved no different.

However, for whatever reason, Cody never received a real push in WWE. Despite making every gimmick they gave him work like a charm.

Cody went from being a lackey to Randy Orton in Legacy to being ‘Dashing Cody Rhodes’, then Rhodes wore a protective mask over his face after Rey Mysterio (kayfabe) broke his nose in a match. He then teamed up with Damien Sandow, and after that he became Stardust.

Rhodes has won the Intercontinental Championship twice and the Tag Team Championships on a couple of occasions, with different tag team partners, as well. But Rhodes never could get into the main event scene. He never even got an opportunity.

Since leaving WWE in early 2016, Rhodes has proven himself worthy of being Heavyweight Champion, as he is currently the Ring of Honor World Champion. As well as winning championships in Global Force Wrestling, and What Culture Pro Wrestling.

Rhodes left the WWE because he was unhappy with the storylines they were giving him, and every time he would go to the company with a new storyline, or a  way to make his current one better, they would turn him down. So Rhodes, a ten-year veteran of WWE, asked for his release and took the independent circuit by storm.

On the independent scene, Rhodes gets to call the shots. He gets to decide who he wrestles and when. No more being stuck in horrible storylines and having to deal with it. He is in control.

Rhodes has too many good things going for him on the independent circuit to go back to WWE just to be paired up with his brother again.
