WWE Rumors: Backstage Personnel Confused with Kane Beating Balor

On this weeks edition of WWE Raw, Finn Balor faced off against Kane and lost, leading to confusion from only the fans, but also WWE officials backstage.

In what was a surprise match-up, the newly returning Big Red Machine faced Finn Balor – who had just defeated AJ Styles the following night at WWE TLC – and won. To score the victory Kane hit three choke-slams in a row.

Now, you may be asking why this is such a big deal? Are the fans overacting to Balor losing clean to Kane? Well, yes and no.

The uproar over social media has been massive, especially because the match in question really didn’t need to happen. However, is it an overreaction? I don’t think so.

The slated feud for Brock Lesnar following Survivor Series is against Finn Balor. The Beast, who is ridding high on momentum heading into every pay-per-view, facing Balor, a man who has had a rough few months in a pointless feud against Bryan Wyatt — who just got pinned by Kane.

When a Superstar enters into a feud with Lesnar, they need momentum. The main reason Strowman vs. Lesnar worked so well was because both men had rockets on their back, running roughshod through everyone. And then they finally meet.

However, if Balor faces The Beast Incarnate, they’ll be no momentum for the Irishman. Moreover, the fans already have to suspend their disbelief to believe that Balor (even in face paint) can beat Lesnar – let alone with a poor win streak ahead of the bout.

But don’t just take my word for it, Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer reached out to his contacts backstage to ask them why Kane went over Balor, their response was very telling.

"“There is no explanation, there is no defense, he [Vince] just whiffed”"

So it seems as if it’s not just the fans left to scratch their heads, but also people working backstage.

My main gripe about the match is that it could have been any one facing Kane, putting him over to make him look strong heading into a feud with Strowman, and not a man who you’re trying to build up to face Lesnar down the line. All in all it seems like WWE are back to their last minute booking decisions, that really don’t make any sense.
