The Ascension Save The Fashion Files
I mentioned it in my introduction but I’m going to repeat here: I didn’t think this week’s episode of Fashion Files was good. Breezango are able to give us much more satisfying skits than ones that involve skid-marked underwear. I mean, it started strong with Tyler Breeze and Fandango arguing about the Mr. Pink monicker, a reference to Reservoir Dogs when the gangsters are displeased at being called Mr. Pink (although here Breeze and Dango BOTH want to be pink; “hot” and “tickled” to be precise). But the rest of the segment lacked the usual rapid-fire and clever quips that we have come to expect.
But we can definitely point to another strong contribution by The Ascension, who unquestionably stole the show in this segment. Ever since their role within Fashion Files has solidified, they have been doing amazing work in keeping the segments fresh. They bounce effortlessly from their goofy quest to become friends with Breezango to being the perfect straight men to the Fashion Police’s utter cluelessness.
In a pure storytelling sense, adding the Ascension as grounded characters makes sense. As Breezango become more and more ditzy and off-the-wall, the audience needs relatable characters to try and make sense of things. So as long as Konnor and Viktor keep calling them out on their nonsense, Breezango can keep going sillier and sillier without fear.
