Becky Lynch Becomes Captain of SmackDown Live’s Women’s Team

Ah, pro wrestling, where all life’s decisions and conflicts are settled in the ring, no matter how petty (such as someone stealing your jacket) or life-changing (like fighting for adoption papers) those issues may be. Despite having to accept this concept as one of the basic necessities to be able to enjoy wrestling, I’m somewhat unsure of having the women on both Raw and SmackDown Live fight become the captain of their Survivor Series teams. I mean, it’s kind of like a hospital picking its resident neurosurgeon by the results of a drag race.

That said, I am thrilled that Becky Lynch got the nod to lead the SmackDown women’s team. It was about time that she got raised back into some role of significance other than that one girl who gets to share those tiny, imaginary cups of tea with Charlotte Flair. It feels like forever since she lost the SmackDown women’s championship (it was in April, but it feels like forever) and her role has been significantly reduced since then.

Becky’s been in limbo for a while now and while it doesn’t seem to have hurt her popularity, seeing she still gets really big pops when she shows up, a credible Becky Lynch is a win for everyone in the division.
