Continuity and Explanations and Reasons, Oh My!

Wait. Wait. Hold the phone. Did WWE actually and properly weave AJ Styles’ surprising cross-band presence on TLC and Raw into a storyline? Did creative actually make an effort to make some sense and create some continuity?

Well, I’ll be dipped in rendered chicken fat and hope I have the proper inoculations to avoid contracting salmonella, because yes, WWE did take the time to bring some logic and connect AJ Style’s last-minute TLC booking to the build-up to the Survivor Series.

In a moment of rare creative clarity, we had Shane McMahon standing in the middle of the ring, stately and cocksure, selling his ongoing Hell in a Cell injuries much better than he did the previous night on Raw, telling us that his decision to share AJ Styles to Raw for TLC was the first part of a master plan that culminated with the invasion on Raw. Shane said when Kurt Angle called him to ask for help, he had a revelation. He recounted that he saw an opportunity to strike first at the Raw brand and took it by lending AJ Styles for the Monday night flagship show as well.

It’s almost as if WWE doesn’t always think its audience is made up of idiots.
