4. Asuka Squashing Nobodies Does Nothing For Her
The debut of Asuka at TLC was a much-anticipated one for the Raw women’s division as the division was getting one of the brightest stars in women’s wrestling today. And her debut didn’t disappoint with a solid encounter with the now departed Emma.
The Empress of Tomorrow had another solid match with Emma the following night on Raw, but over the past couple of weeks, Asuka’s buildup has taken a different turn. After beating an established women’s competitor during her first two nights on the main roster, Asuka has taken out two non-main roster individuals.
It started with a squash victory over Stacie Cullen and it continued last night on Raw with a squash victory over Stacy Coates. Two wins typically don’t signify a sign of going backward for a superstar, but one could argue that’s exactly what’s happened to Asuka over the past couple of weeks.
Asuka’s main roster debut has gone backward since her first two nights. After getting two competitive wins against an established superstar in Emma, it doesn’t make sense for her to start squashing nobodies. If the WWE wanted to go this route, it should have started it from Asuka’s first night on the main roster instead of waiting until she’s already defeated someone on the main roster.
The Empress of Tomorrow has all the skills in the world to be a major force in Raw’s women’s division, but booking her in reverse could threaten to derail her momentum.
