How Long Will AJ Styles Keep The WWE Championship?

On the latest edition of SmackDown Live, AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to become the new WWE Champion. But how long will he keep it for?

On Tuesday night, at a UK SmackDown Live taping no less, The Phenomenal One defeated Jinder Mahal. The WWE title change came completely out of left-field, with no one predicting the win; mainly because the match was changed last minute and because Mahal has been incredibly dominant over his six month reign of terror.

This now makes the former TNA star a two-time WWE Champion, and officially The Champ That Runs The Camp once again. But how long will it last? I hate to be the guy that raises the question, but we’re all thinking it.

In all honestly, there’s three main scenarios. The first, and the worst scenario is that Styles drops the title next week on the blue brand. If this does happen, then we’ll know that the only reason the title was put on Styles for a week was to pop a rating. In case you didn’t know, last week’s edition of SmackDown Live was very poor in terms of viewership. And usually if a show does a poor rating, Vince McMahon will always try and pull something off the next week, hence, Styles winning.

The second scenario is that Styles holds on to the title until WrestleMania. Now, to many fans this may seem out of the question. However, I think it’s more likely than the first scenario. It wouldn’t be all that surprising for Styles to keep the title and face, oh I don’t know, a certain someone from Japan at ‘Mania? A certain someone whom Styles has been mentioning in interviews, over and over, as a guy he’d like to face at The Grandest Stage Of Them All.

The third, and most likely scenario is that Styles will keep the title past Survivor Series, and then drop it to Mahal in the following weeks. One would assume that WWE knew the fans weren’t all that interested in seeing Lesnar face Mahal, and as such, changed the match to create more buzz. As well all know, the India tour is still a top priority for WWE, and I’d be shocked to see Mahal walk in without the title around his waist. This is why I think The Modern Day Maharaja will pick the title up following Survivor Series.

One last thing to note is that a month ago, WWE released a poster for their tour of India, and Mahal was listed as a two-time WWE Champion. It may have been a marketing error, yes, but it may also be a sign that he’s reclaiming the belt. Keep that in mind, folks.
