Singles Match: Aleister Black vs The Velveteen Dream
More and more it’s looking like TakeOver: WarGames is as interested in pushing new, budding talent as it is elevating their already established stars. That’s a beautiful thing and clearly what’s on display with this pairing between Black and the former Patrick Clark. Make no mistake, Black is a massive superstar just waiting to happen. He has all it takes to make it all the way in both NXT and the main roster. He’s got the look, the in-ring skill, a killer entrance, and his anti-hero persona is something that the WWE Universe seems to be getting behind. There’s a very strong chance that within the next six months, he’ll either be the NXT champion or a major player on RAW or SmackDown.
Enter The Velveteen Dream. Just two years ago it seemed like his WWE career was dead in the water. After an extremely disappointing end to his run on Tough Enough where his humility was questioned, the then Clark retreated to the indy scene. But it didn’t take long for the WWE to realize that his level of talent was too much to pass up on and signed him to developmental deal. And now just two years later he finds himself on a TakeOver card with a brand new Prince-like persona taking on Black after a feud that has slowly and quietly become one of the very best on NXT.
The result of this match comes down to status. Black is right near the top of the heap in NXT and Clark is just getting there. This match should be really good but The Velveteen Dream isn’t quite ready for a win this big. “The Ominous Man From Amsterdam” takes it.
Winner: Aleister Black
