4. AJ Styles vs. Roman Reigns (Extreme Rules 2016)

This was the second time Styles and Reigns met, and it was Styles’ second crack at Reigns’ WWE Championship.

It was the first time fans got a chance to see Styles face one of the WWE’s “guys.” While his first feud with Chris Jericho was great, the anticipation that associated Styles V Reigns was palpable.

Some may argue the inclusion of The Club and The Usos hurt the overall flow of the match, but it was an extreme rules contest. Because of that stipulation, the interferences felt organic and right on brand.

This wasn’t a traditional Styles match. It gave the seasoned ring general more freedom, as the match fell under extreme rules. Styles and Reigns battled around the arena, and the former utilized a steel chair to his advantage. It showed how versatile Styles is, and how he can succeed in a bevy of matches.

The ending of this match was one of the best conclusions to a match during all of 2016. Styles attempted to hit Reigns with his signature Phenomenal Forearm. Reigns, looking to end the match once and for all, countered with a thunderous spear that ultimately kept Styles down for the three count.

Perhaps nobody should’ve been surprised with how great this match was. Reigns is one of the best workers in the company, after all, regardless of how many people try to deny that fact.

Here’s hoping we get some more matches between the two in the near future.
