1. Shane McMahon Gets One Over On Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn Amid More Confusion With Daniel Bryan
The authority figures on SmackDown have dominated the top storylines on the brand for months. Commissioner Shane McMahon’s feud with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn has been the top angle on SmackDown, but new dimensions have been thrown in as well.
The feud has been intersected by GM Daniel Bryan and the WWE Champion AJ Styles lately as well. Shane’s often disagreements with Bryan get tenser every week and they have not been on the same page for quite some time. But Bryan’s decision to make a handicap match at the Royal Rumble pitting Styles against Owens and Zayn for the WWE Championship led to a match last night.
Shane O’Mac put Owens and Zayn in a handicap match last night against Styles, Randy Orton, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Owens and Zayn wanted nothing to do with it and tried to walk away and get purposely counted out. However, Shane had other ideas and restarted the match as a no count-out match. Owens and Zayn tried another tactic of using a chair to get disqualified, but Shane countered that as well and restarted the match under anything goes rules.
Styles chased Owens backstage, leaving Orton and Nakamura to feast on Zayn. After a lot of punishment, Orton pinned Zayn to get the win for his team. This will certainly create more confusion among Shane and Bryan and it seems likely their presence will be felt during the handicap match at the Royal Rumble.
This angle keeps getting more developments every week, but a payoff will have to take place soon enough as WrestleMania season is getting closer.
