5. Post-Match women’s brawl

I almost wonder if the SmackDown creative team takes time out to write these women’s segments, or do they simply scribble “just do what the RAW women did but change it up a little bit” on the script? Putting aside that critique, the brawl effectively built up the Women’s Royal Rumble match.

The preceding Naomi vs. Liv Morgan bout wasn’t anything special; Morgan is still as green as a Boston Celtics jersey and while Naomi handles herself well in the ring, she isn’t good enough to hide Morgan’s flaws.

After the former SmackDown Women’s champion pinned Morgan with a sunset flip, all of the SmackDown women’s Rumble participants, who made their way to ringside during the match, traded punches with one another before tossing each other over the top rope.

Most notably, Becky Lynch tried to send fellow babyface Naomi to the floor, highlighting the free-for-all nature of the Rumble. Similar to Monday, WWE did a nice job establishing the “every woman for herself” concept of the bout.

After the ruckus concluded, SmackDown Women’s champion Charlotte sauntered out and somewhat heelishly wished all the women luck on Sunday.

I don’t think Charlotte is turning heel, especially if Ronda Rousey wins and faces her. She has performed well in her top babyface role and it feels too soon to turn her again. Then again, it seemed too soon when they turned her face last summer, so what do I know? Either way, the segment effectively laid out the stakes of the Rumble and what awaits the winner. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but it got the job done.
