Vince McMahon Officially Announces The XFL Under Alpha Entertainment
By Harry Austen
This afternoon, Vince McMahon, the chairman of WWE, announced the return of the XFL during a live announcement streamed on social media.
This time around, Vince McMahon is giving himself more time to prepare, because the XFL will be debuting in 2020. From the outset, the WWE chairman made note that “quite frankly, we’re going to give the game of football, back to the fans”, playing off the narrative that the NFL isn’t fan-friendly – like many expected.
As well as starting out by playing up to the narrative, McMahon admitted that he’s up for listening to advice from fans, members of the media, and players themselves. Stating that the XFL is still a work in progress, he’s happy to listen to the audience, especially on the rules they want to see introduced in the game.
Just like the wrestling juggernaut, WWE, the XFL will be “fan centric”. According to McMahon, the football games will be “shorter, faster-paced and family friendly”.

There will be eight teams and 40 players per roster, however, McMahon kept the cities and players very close to his chest, revealing little to no info regarding who else will be involved in the XFL. Though he did mention that the players have to be “good human beings” as well as good players.
The XFL content, again like WWE’s, will be available on every device possible. McMahon is especially leaning towards mobile devices, “we will be available on mobile devices and everything in between”.
Vince claimed that the football league, which he now states will “reimagine the game of football”, was always something he wanted to bring back.
Although the WWE boss failed last time, he admitted that he did learn a lot from his last XFL experience. Noting that the most important thing he learned “was the quality of the play” is vital, as well as pointing out that he has “2 years to really get it right”.
In regards to distributing the games, at this moment in time, he hasn’t had any talks. However, he has received a lot of interest from providers. Being a visionary, McMahon also wants to consider “new forms of presentation” for the XFL.

One important note, to wrestling fans at least, was that McMahon made sure to note that this repeat venue into football was completely separate from WWE. And when asked about his commitment to WWE, following this announcement, he clearly stated that “it won’t affect his day-to-day running of WWE”. He will still be the chairman and head of WWE creative.
