According to a new report, Ronda Rousey’s role in WWE may not be as clear cut as one may think.

When you hear the name Ronda Rousey affiliated with WWE, you think about a woman that would come in a tear the house down with her legitimacy and fighting experience, you wouldn’t, however, think about the same woman coming in putting over the boss’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon.

However, according to a new report from Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, the latter is in fact true. Well, sort of.

Per Meltzer’s latest report, the former UFC bantamweight champion was brought in to help Stephanie McMahon’s brand, as well as WWE’s. “The key to Rousey is more about Stephanie McMahon”, writes Meltzer, “which is why they want that super high-profile match”.

"Stephanie McMahon is a big star in wrestling, but she is not a mainstream star at all. It was explained to me that the key in all this goes back to what made Vince McMahon a big star, which was the program with Steve Austin, and what made Steve Austin a breakthrough star past being a pro wrestling top guy, which was hardly an interview at King of the Ring or the WrestleMania match with Bret Hart, as legend has it, but the angle in Fresno with Mike Tyson. The report continues by mentioning that ‘The Billionaire Princess’ is a big name in wrestling, but isn’t a big name in the mainstream media. As such, being involved in a match with Rousey – a household name – Stephanie will be at the forefront of the mainstream attention.

Which, really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Let us not forget that the same woman was made a ring announcer just to push her own “accomplishment” of the women’s revolution.

As touched upon, McMahon benefiting from yet another celebrity or groundbreaking moment is nothing to be surprised at – it’s been going on for a while. But one more important thing to keep in mind is how the fans, you know the people that actually pay to watch the product, feel about the agenda behind Rousey coming in. Because at the end of the day, she’s the one bringing in the sales — not Stephanie.
