CM Punk

This perhaps the easiest and most lucrative option in this entire group. Unfortunately, it’s also the most far-fetched as well. CM Punk was a controversial figure during his run with the WWE and his departure didn’t help that matter. He left the company and made sure he spoke ill of nearly everyone on his way out the door. While some have come out to counter his claims, perhaps the most poignant was Vince McMahon’s statement, openly apologizing to him and saying that he would work with Punk in the future.

The question is whether or not the WWE could work with the UFC, where Phil Brooks is under contract. As rumors swirl that he’s set for a second fight in the Octagon, the picture is cloudy for the future; especially if he doesn’t perform well once again. That doesn’t mean that the UFC could not find a way to partner with the WWE for special occasions. They’ve done so for Brock Lesnar, and while it wasn’t clear if there was a transaction of fans between both promotions, that doesn’t mean they should stop working together in all facets.

CM Punk’s return to the WWE screams main event. He could be booked against any of the top wrestlers on either brand and his mere presence creates a box office attraction. Punk vs Lesnar, Punk vs Roman Reigns, Punk vs. Styles, Punk vs Rollins and so many other options are immediately available.

Punk was widely considered one of the best wrestlers of his generation, but he also had the ability to tell a story that got fans invested in his presence. That’s what’s widely missing in the organization today and bringing CM Punk back to the fold would help correct this for the near future.
