Bray Wyatt Should Join Matt Hardy as Woken Wyatt in WWE

Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy battled in one of the most bizarre events that WWE fans have ever seen at March 19’s Ultimate Deletion. Their segment went on last on Monday Night Raw and it definitely delivered on the nearly three-hour hype.

It was insane, it was ridiculous and most importantly, it was fun. Both men rose to the occasion and fans knew they had seen something special. This was not Ric Flair versus Dusty Rhodes, but it didn’t have to be. Ultimate Deletion was a different kind of art painted on a much different canvas.

But now the question is what happens with Wyatt? Matt’s win is yet another step in the journey of his Woken character. This will likely lead him to his next feud, which will surely lead him to WrestleMania 34. Jeff Hardy’s return during Ultimate Deletion suggests he could be along for the ride as well.

However The Eater of Worlds was tossed into the Lake of Reincarnation and was not seen again. Fans have speculated as to exactly what that means, including whether or not Wyatt will emerge with a brand new gimmick.

It’s an interesting possibility, especially considering that Bray Wyatt has existed since 2012. He now is a fixture in WWE. Husky Harris has faded into the background. Wyatt’s ties to his father Mike Rotunda, his grandfather Blackjack Mulligan and his uncle Barry Windham have never been outright exposed on WWE programming.

Fans know the truth. But they have only been given one aspect of the Wyatt character. Could it be that when he returns, he will do so under his real name? Will Windham Rotunda make his debut on Monday Night Raw and finally speak openly about his Hall of Fame family?

Perhaps WWE has something else in mind. Wyatt could come back with an entirely new persona, one that would allow him to explore the next stage of his evolution. He’s always been great on the mic and he obviously knows how to tell a story in the ring. He would surely be able to do that with a fresh character that he could truly bring to life.

What are the chances that Wyatt does not come back for a while? WrestleMania 34 is fast approaching so even if The Eater of Worlds did reappear, what would he do? Would he once again feud with Hardy? Ultimate Deletion was the supposed end of their rivalry. Why would WWE choose to revisit it again?

The fact is that Wyatt is much too good to stay on the shelf. He has something to contribute and that cannot be denied. He has done a fine job as Bray Wyatt and it’s a character that he created. Wyatt took something form nothing and he made it work. Despite any shortcomings he had due to bad booking, no one should ignore the good work he did since arriving on the main roster.

The most obvious answer to Wyatt’s reincarnation is simple. He should return at the side of Matt Hardy. As foes, they were highly entertaining. But as allies, they would become red-hot. Just as Daniel Bryan’s return to action has become the biggest story on SmackDown Live, the union of Wyatt and Hardy would take center stage on Monday Night Raw.

Wyatt would finally make the babyface turn that so many fans believed he should make. He was an excellent heel. But he became so popular that fans just wanted more for him. As long as he remains an antagonist, he will only go so far.

But as a protagonist, he will step into a whole new world. He and Matt could become the most popular tag team on Monday nights. Along with Jeff, the three would become the hottest act in WWE. The Shield is still not active thanks to Dean Ambrose’s injury. But WWE would have a new power trio to entertain fans with Matt’s Woken family.

It would likely not last forever of course. Eventually Bray would want to seize control. That part of his character would surely not just die and never return. But that moment could be months, even years, away. In the meantime, there is a lot of potential for WWE to create something special for Wyatt. There is also a lot of potential for Wyatt to rediscover the fun of being a WWE Superstar. There seems to be no negative aspect to this pairing.

No matter what happens with Bray Wyatt, there is no denying that he has come a long way as a performer. He has been one of the most captivating Superstars of his generation. Fans will remember his work as The Eater of Worlds.

But if he forges ahead at the side of Matt Hardy, he can write a whole new chapter. Fans know he’s capable of doing more and accomplishing more. Wyatt surely knows that as well. With any luck, WWE realizes that too.
