WWE Raw: The Undertaker Should Not Show Up Next Week
By Tom Thomas
Every week on WWE Raw, John Cena has been calling out the Undertaker. Here is why I think Taker should remain in the shadows instead until WrestleMania.
The WWE has been teasing the fans with another dream match over the last few weeks on WWE Raw. The Undertaker and John Cena will most likely collide at WrestleMania 34. These two men have rarely come across each other, let alone have a singles match. A clash of epic proportions potentially await them at this year’s WrestleMania.
However, as I have iterated multiple times in my recent posts, this is a match that should have happened four years ago ideally. The streak should have still be alive for this match to have the kind of historical significance creative hopes for. One has to wonder what could be done to maintain an aura of uncertainty around the match – much like the uncertainty of the streak being broken in the past.
An unconventional way to get this done would be to have this uncertainty surround the match itself. Fans have to wonder whether the match will happen or not. This has to continue not just into next week, but into WrestleMania as well. There is just one more edition of Raw to come before the Showcase of the Immortals. Many expect the Undertaker to show up next week to confirm the rumors of his epic clash with Cena.
Instead, creative should continue what has been happening over the past couple of weeks. The Phenom should remain in the shadows and Cena should continue to vent his frustration about this. This segment can even close out the show as the fans will remain on the edge of their seats, wondering whether the Dead Man would show up at least before the show ends.
But when all is said and done, Taker should not be there and everyone including the commentary team needs to wonder as to what could happen at Mania. This match should not be announced on the card either.

Then, on April 9th, after the pre-show and when the show is about to start, Cena should come out and interrupt the proceedings. He should rain on everybody’s parade, iterating the fact that he doesn’t have a match because Undertaker is a coward according to him.
This is when the Phenom should finally give the first sign of his impending appearance. The lights should go off and the Gong should echo around the arena. Then druids should come out and surround the ring, as if to guide Cena somewhere. A confused and shaken Cena should oblige and the segment should end there.
This will ensure there is even more uncertainty around Taker and Cena and some anticipation as to whether the match would happen after all. But here is the catch; this match should not happen. Neither Cena, nor Undertaker losing at this point in time is not ideal. Neither man deserves to lose. Instead, the WWE universe should be interrupted by the Undertaker’s rendition of the ‘Ultimate Deletion’. A video package where Cena comes face to face the Reaper of Souls, surrounded by his druids, dressed in his most terrifying attire ever.
A stubborn Cena could taunt the Undertaker, asking him to face him in the ring, in a proper match. But Taker should not give in. He will tell Cena to leave him alone or else face his wrath in return for the words of disrespect from Cena. However, Cena should not back down. From there, the two could engage in a savage fight, which eventually ends with Cena clearly being taken out by the Undertaker. The ending should take a page out of HBK’s final match against the Dead Man, where he asks Taker to just ‘finish it’, taunting his signature taunt.
Taker should proceed to hit the tombstone on Cena. He should then finally say those legendary words and let the WWE universe that the Reaper of Souls is indeed done with his WWE career. By not having a proper match, neither man has to bear the burden of losing once again at WrestleMania. Moreover, this would also ensure the Undertaker doesn’t have to strain as much, considering all the bumps that he has taken over the years. A match between these two will not satisfy from an in-ring action point. However, something along the lines of this, something unfamiliar to the WWE universe could.

Above everything, there will be a genuine sense of excitement and uncertainty surrounding the whole affair. The only question is, will creative opt for this or go with the safe route and have Taker accept Cena’s challenge next week.
