Why WWE WrestleMania 34 Needs A Ladder Match

WWE WrestleMania 34 is shaping up to be a tremendous pay-per-view offering from the WWE, but one style of match is missing that could put the event over the top.

The current card for WWE WrestleMania 34 is stellar from top to bottom, but a match style that has produced some of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history is currently non-existent on the card.

Over the years, there have been some outstanding ladder matches at WrestleMania that have helped define the event and have resulted in some all-time great matches in WWE history.  But as it stands right now, there will not be a ladder match at WrestleMania 34.

The show should still be great regardless if there’s a ladder match or not, but the show could really use a ladder match on the card.  Just think back at some of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history and many of them are ladder matches.

It all started at WrestleMania 10 with Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon in a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship.  That match is still very highly regarded and helped define both superstars’ careers while also set the precedent for future ladder matches.

Who could ever forget the triangle ladder match at WrestleMania 16 for the tag team titles?  It was an awesome match with so much creativity and cutting-edge maneuvers that still hold up to this very day.

And then there was possibly the best of them all with TLC II at WrestleMania 17 for the tag team titles.  The amount of extreme and borderline death-defying spots in this match is still staggering and this match could very well be the greatest ladder match in WWE history.

The Money in the Bank ladder matches also began at WrestleMania back in 2005 at WrestleMania 21 and they continued at WrestleMania all the way through WrestleMania 26 before getting their own pay-per-view.

More from WrestleMania

Outside of those prime examples, there have been several other ladder matches at WrestleMania over the past few years that have resulted in some very good battles.  What does all of this say?  It says that ladder matches at WrestleMania are key to the show’s success.

WrestleMania 34 could really benefit from a ladder match.  With two tag team title matches and two mid card-level title matches on the card, any one of those matches could stand for a ladder match makeover.

Many have said the United States Championship match is pretty dull, so making it a ladder match would really shake things up, even though the recent addition of Rusev has shaken the match up to an extent.  And if WrestleMania 34 doesn’t feature a ladder match, it will be one of very few WrestleMania’s in recent years to not feature a ladder match.

Since 2000, there have only been seven WrestleMania’s to not feature a ladder match and the last WrestleMania to not feature a ladder match was WrestleMania 30 in 2014.  And while the ladder matches in recent years at WrestleMania don’t get the hype of certain others, they were still very good.

The ladder match at WrestleMania 31 for the Intercontinental Championship was a highlight of the show that saw Daniel Bryan win the title.  The ladder match at WrestleMania 32 for the Intercontinental Championship was also a big highlight that gave Zack Ryder a WrestleMania moment in front of over 100,000 fans in attendance.

And the ladder match at WrestleMania 33 for the Raw Tag Team Championship saw the epic return of The Hardy Boyz, who went on to win the tag titles in one of the greatest WrestleMania moments of all-time.

The proof is in the pudding and that proof is WrestleMania ladder matches always turn out well and result in some of the best matches at that specific WrestleMania.  The same could be and should be done at WrestleMania 34.
