Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic: Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne Vs The Authors of Pain

Result: No Decision

Grade: C+

At the start of this week’s NXT, Charlie Caruso hyped the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Final and announced that Bobby Fish was injured, and would be unable to compete on Saturday night.

The crowd were hot for this match, as the two teams got underway in the ring, with duelling chants for Pete Dunne and The Authors of Pain as the match got started. The two teams had some really great exchanges, and the crowd were really into the bout. Neither team really managed to get the upper hand though as Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly ran down and attacked them both at around the nine-minute mark.

The two men beat down both teams and left the ring, only for William Regal to come to the ring and announce that The Undisputed Era would now have to defend against both teams at Takeover: New Orleans, with Cole stepping in to replace the injured Bobby Fish.

This was a really fun way to open the show. The crowd were red hot throughout, and the two teams were building towards a great match before the interruption. The match at Takeover should be excellent, and it will be interesting to see how much Adam Cole gets involved, given that he has to pull double duty on Saturday night.

Kairi Sane Vs Vanessa Bourne

Result: Kairi Sane Wins With the Elbow Drop

Grade: C-

Kairi Sane is out next for a fairly quick match with Vanessa Bourne. The match goes around five minutes, and Bourne dominates the majority of the offence in the ring. Sane eventually overcomes her attacks though, before finishing her opponent off with her elbow drop, which is always awesome to watch.

The match was fine, and it was a nice way to establish Sane as a potential challenger for the NXT Women’s Title after Takeover.
