Winner: The Main Event Scene

If there is one takeaway from the Superstar Shakeup as a whole, it is that SmackDown possesses one of the best crops of main event talent in recent memory. Let’s list off every wrestler with main event potential: AJ Styles, Daniel Bryan, Shinsuke Nakamura, the Miz, Rusev, Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, a reinvented Big Cass (they finally got his music right), and even Jeff Hardy. This is quite an impressive list filled with legitimate superstars and great potential. The only name missing from this list is Finn Balor as he is a much better fit here than he is on Raw.

The quality of stories that have been told among this group outside of WWE was excellent, especially with Joe and AJ as they have told some great stories in the ring. What we are seeing here is the hardcore wrestling fan’s dream come true. It should be easy to expect some fantastic matches are coming down the pipe from this collection of main event talent. Any one of those wrestlers can carry the WWE Championship effectively and generate interest in the product each week. If there was ever a time to get into SmackDown, it is right now.

10 Random Thoughts from SmackDown

  1. Providence was a great crowd for this episode.
  2. Nakamura is doing a great job of playing the heel. The “no speak English” line is great, just don’t overuse it.
  3. Why did Randy Orton enter before Jeff Hardy? I get the foreshadowing but this was bizarre.
  4. Samoa Joe can carry any roster. He is that good.
  5. The Bludgeon Brothers need to do more in their feud with the Usos to generate more heel heat.
  6. Shelton Benjamin sounded great and wrestled great. He needs a run with a mid-card title at some point.
  7. Nikki Cross not being a part of SAnitY is really disappointing.
  8. Bruce Prichard’s podcast is great and being on the WWE Network is great news for him.
  9. Tye Dillinger is wasting away on the main roster.
  10. How cool is it to see Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles wrestling as a tag team on SmackDown in 2018?
