Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are Destined to Face Deletion

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn have found a new home on Monday Night Raw and many WWE fans couldn’t be happier. Both men have earned their way in the company and their partnership has put them on a different level.

They were great opponents but they are also great friends. Their work on SmackDown Live was entertaining and now their supporters are surely hoping that work translates to the red brand. But will Raw actually become the Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens show?

Owens and Zayn became the top act on SmackDown Live and with good reason. Every week they verbally attacked Shane McMahon. They complained about their spots. They argued that they were being treated unfairly. Every time Owens and Zayn shared screen time with Shane, they were elevated.

Fans took their side. Instead of hating on them, the crowd understood them. Kevin and Sami took their case to the court of public opinion and that court was well aware of just how ridiculous WWE’s booking could be at times.

Zayn and KO had allies in the audience for the same reason they had fans online. The WWE faithful knew how hard both men had worked to achieve their dreams. They also know how much Owens and Zayn deserve to be on the main event level. So when the two friends stood in the ring on TV and demanded their voices be heard, the fans responded.

But then they put their hands on Shane. Shane is the most popular member of the McMahon family and he probably always will be. Vince McMahon can move the crowd to either love or hate him, depending on the type of mood he’s in. Stephanie will always be the most hated and does a great job of maintaining her heel status.

However Shane is the one that fans can relate to the most. He’s part of the machine, but he’s not so entrenched that he’s not relatable. That’s how fans see him. He may be a millionaire and heir to an empire, but when he shows up in a T-Shirt and blue jeans, Shane McMahon looks like a regular guy.

However his actions during the storyline with Owens and Zayn became insanely repetitive. He was always there to thumb his nose and use his power as SmackDown Commissioner. But he did it in such a way that did not cause him to heel out. He was still the same Shane McMahon that fans loved though now he had a vendetta.

Of course the storyline led to the vicious assault on Daniel Bryan and when that happened, fans all but gave up on Kevin and Sami. Taking Shane out was one thing but taking out Bryan was much more heinous. That single act forced the crowd to forget all of Kevin and Sami’s redeeming qualities. The only thing that mattered anymore was the evil that they could do.

But it’s a new day for them as now they are free to wreak havoc on the red brand. Fans have short term memories so they will likely continue their love/hate relationship with Kevin and Sami. That means both guys will hear cheers or boos, depending on who they’re working. So who do they work?

If Sami and Kevin remain a tag team then they will ultimately be in title contention. Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt will face The Bar at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble event for the vacated Raw Tag Team Championships. Hardy and Wyatt will probably win and if they do, Owens and Zayn will be ready for them.

The best part about this potential feud is the chemistry that all four men should have. Matt and Bray are bizarre, insane and enigmatic. They are perfect together because one man keeps the other man centered. Woken Matt Hardy is one degree away from becoming The Eater of Worlds. Bray Wyatt easily transitioned into a Woken warrior.

They are similar but a little different as well. The same is true of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Owens has always done what he wants and used others to get ahead. He doesn’t have real friends because no one around him is that important to him. Everyone he comes in contact with is just a means to an end. But no matter how bad he is, there’s something oddly intriguing about him. Fans want to see the good in him and he could make an amazing babyface if given the chance.

Zayn was a fine babyface but the intensity and ambition that endeared him to the WWE faithful also spurned his heel turn. He was sick of doing the right thing because it did not help his cause and no one cared anyway. Sami Zayn became Kevin Owens. Owens could become Sami Zayn. The two are forever linked.

They’re the perfect duo to face Hardy and Wyatt and a feud between them would undoubtedly become the most entertaining angle on Monday Night Raw. Fans know that Zayn and Owens always leave it all in the middle of the ring and they respect that about them. Now both men have a chance to discover new opportunities with different opponents.

They may have been fed to Bobby Lashley and Braun Strowman on the April 23 edition of Raw but that will not be their fate. There’s a lot more to come for Owens and Zayn. Maybe Monday Night Raw will indeed become the Sami and Kevin Show.
