WarGames: The Deserving VS #SquadGoals

Our Prediction: # Squadgoals for the win!

Result: #Squadgoals triumphs in a five-way submission win over The Deserving

Our reactions:

Harmony: The second I saw Rhia O’Reilly start to climb the side of the cage, I got why they kicked off WrestleQueendom with War Games. This match was an awesome showcase of skilled wrestlers, and the cage gimmick gives everyone a chance to show off what they do best in a whole new environment. The match was also well-paced and well-booked, with tension mounting every time the clock re-started. As for the individual performances, Emi Sakura was the unexpected MVP of this matchu for me- that double submission was really something else -but everybody put in their best work for a fun and truly brutal match. I was also impressed by Charli Evans, who has really been growing on me since I started watching her in RISE. It makes sense that EVE trusted their best of the best to kick off this show, and they did not disappoint.

Also, Rhia jumping off the corner of the cage was a 100% Bull Nakano boss mode move and I hope she does it a hundred more times.

Joe: This match was an absolute treat, and it’s one of those matches that rewards the viewer for patiently watching the action develop. When Blue Nikita and Emi Sakura started the match, I was kind of nervous about how this match would go, because things started very slowly. But by the time Laura Di Matteo and Jamie Hayter entered into the steel cage, this match started to kick into that next gear. I was especially impressed by these two, because they both added so much energy to this match and played into their past history as competitors.

WarGames went from “good” to “great” when Rhia O’Reilly made her entrance as the eighth and final competitor, diving off of the top of the cage with a picture-perfect crossbody. Soon after, the heels had a real advantage, tying up all four babyfaces in submission holds. But the babyfaces fought out of it (loved the spot where O’Reilly and Addy Starr held hands to fight out of the holds together), and both teams started trading big move after big move.

In the end, the babyfaces won by putting all of the heels in submissions after Starr and O’Reilly, who were the last two entrants and took the least damage throughout the match, hit elevated DDTs.

After a slow start, this match culminated in a brilliant finish, and when all eight competitors were in the match, the chaos was brilliant. I recommend watching this match, especially because of how the action built and played into Pro Wrestling EVE’s take on the WarGames rules.
