5 Independent Wrestlers We Would Love to See One Day Join WWE
By Bryan Heaton
1. Matt Riddle
Let’s be clear here: this one has less chance of happening than Roman Reigns being cheered by a Chicago wrestling crowd. Matt Riddle is fond of a certain illicit substance that got him fired from UFC, and if he doesn’t quit he’ll forfeit the vast majority of his salary for fines.

But bro, if Riddle ever came to WWE, it would be a coup for the Worldwide Leader. The former mixed martial artist has become one of the most popular wrestlers in the world. That’s partly due to his insane technical ability — he’s also one of the best wrestlers in the world. Last year, Riddle became the Progress Atlas Champion twice, the first ever WWN Champion, and PWG Tag Team Champion with Jeff Cobb.
Riddle’s laid-back attitude would probably be a boon for him if he were to one day sign with WWE. His experience in UFC would also be beneficial. Knowing how to handle the pressure of large crowds and media that aren’t usually prevalent on the independent scene would help Riddle stand out in a crowd.
And think of all the great matches Riddle could have in WWE. Technical, mat-based grappling? Riddle vs. Daniel Bryan would be insane. High energy, fast-paced action? Seth Rollins comes to mind. Strong style, hard hitting fight? How about Riddle vs. Shinsuke Nakamura? The list goes on and on.
