Eight superstars are heading into the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match looking to grab the briefcase. Braun Strowman may be the man to beat.

At WWE Money in the Bank 2018, four superstars from Raw and four from SmackDown Live are set to face off in one of two ladder matches. The prize up for grabs? A briefcase containing a contract for a world championship match at any time or place within a calendar year. As commentary will no doubt constantly remind the WWE Universe, the winner of the MITB Ladder Match is practically guaranteed to become world champion — something that has thus far eluded Braun Strowman in his WWE career.

Strowman debuted in WWE as “the black sheep” of the Wyatt Family in 2015. As the largest member of the stable, it seemed like Braun was there only as a way to re-legitimize the group after a series of missteps. At the Royal Rumble in 2016, Strowman first began to really stand out with the most eliminations in that years Rumble Match. In fact, it took no less a superstar than Brock Lesnar to eliminate Strowman — who would return later in the match with the entire Wyatt Family to eliminate Lesnar as payback.

When the WWE Draft returned in the summer of 2016, Strowman went to Raw while the rest of the Wyatts went to SmackDown Live. In his first night as a singles competitor, Strowman destroyed James Ellsworth, and in the process launched two incredible singles careers. For several weeks, Braun would decimate any number of local competitors, earning his nickname “The Monster Among Men.”

Strowman’s first real test came against Sami Zayn, and their series of encounters showed that Braun was able to hold his own in an actual match. At the 2017 Royal Rumble, Strowman again put on a show with seven eliminations, but was unable to win the match. However, his biggest impact at the Rumble came in the Universal Championship match, where Strowman attacked Roman Reigns and prevented him from defeating champion Kevin Owens.

That kicked off a long feud with Reigns, where Braun repeatedly told The Big Dog that he “wasn’t finished” with him. Some of Strowman’s career highlights came during this rivalry, including the ambulance flip heard ’round the world.

More from Money in the Bank

While in the midst of his feud with Reigns, Strowman did have a handful of chances to win the Universal Championship, first from Kevin Owens and then from Brock Lesnar. His best chance came in a fatal four way match at SummerSlam last year, but Lesnar pinned — you guessed it — Roman Reigns.

After once again failing to capture the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble in 2018. Strowman turned his attention elsewhere. He took the Raw Tag Team Division by storm — despite not having a tag team partner. After Strowman became the number one contender for the Raw Tag Team Championships, he waited until WrestleMania to find his tag team partner. That partner? A young child named Nicholas that he plucked from the crowd. And of course, Braun and Nicholas defeated The Bar, giving Strowman his first championship victory in WWE.

The night after WrestleMania, Strowman and Nicholas relinquished the championships, but Strowman wasn’t done winning things. A few weeks after Mania, Braun won the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia. It was a historic achievement, as it was the largest Rumble match to date with 50 superstars entering. Plus, Braun set the record for most eliminations in a single Royal Rumble along the way with 13 (breaking Roman Reigns’s old record of 12).

Now, Braun Strowman is one of the eight participants in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match on June 17. He’s crossed paths with everyone else in the match, but shows no fear heading into Chicago. Strowman is one of the favorites to leave with the briefcase in hand.
