Report: Rey Mysterio Signs Two-Year Deal With WWE
Rey Mysterio is one of professional wrestling’s greatest legends, and the WWE 2K19 exclusive character will reportedly rejoin WWE on a two-year deal.
For months, WWE has been negotiating with Rey Mysterio, whose return seemed to be predicated on how many dates he’d have to wrestle. Mysterio’s lengthy career has featured some of the greatest matches of all-time, but all of that leads to wear and tear. At 43, Mysterio has reportedly been aiming for a part-time deal with WWE, but there had been snags that prevented this deal from being completed earlier in 2018.
Despite his age, Mysterio remains one of the world’s finest performers, as evidenced by his electric and shocking return at the Royal Rumble this year. Mysterio gave us all “mark out” moments, and there will reportedly be more of those to come in the near future.
Per The Wrestling Standard’s Harry Austen, Mysterio has signed a two-year deal with WWE and is set to make his return “soon”. The Wrestling Standard adds that his contract will begin on August 1, and he could even debut on the episode of SummerSlam following SmackDown Live.
Mysterio is a huge name, and his return at the Rumble absolutely blew up on YouTube. So it makes much more sense for him to join SmackDown Live, especially since WWE just signed a billion-dollar deal with FOX for the rights to that show, than, say, 205 Live (which some fans speculated about…because everyone under 205 automatically goes to that show, right?)
I am ecstatic to hear about Mysterio’s reported signing, and it will be interesting to see who he feuds with first on the WWE main roster. If he does join SmackDown Live, then Jeff Hardy, The Miz, Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Andrade “Cien” Almas, Shelton Benjamin, and countless others would be great opponents for the former Royal Rumble winner.

This signing has honestly seemed imminent since rumors starting heating up in February, and even Mysterio stated that signing with WWE again was a “big possibility”. When he was announced as a character in WWE 2K19, it seemed like nearly a foregone conclusion.
