Sami Zayn Launches New Fundraising Effort #SamiRelief

Sami Zayn is encouraging fans to donate to Syrian relief efforts via a new campaign called #SamiRelief, which will support humanitarian aid in the city of Daraa.

Sami Zayn may be taking a medically-mandated break from wrestling, but he isn’t slowing down outside of the ring.

Last year, Zayn celebrated his birthday by partnering with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and launching Sami for Syria, a fundraising campaign to create and support a mobile clinic  that would be able to bring medical services into regions of Syria most affected by conflict.

This year, he’s continuing the birthday tradition with #SamiRelief, a new effort to raise emergency relief funds for displaced civilians in the city of Daraa.

As Zayn notes in the video above, Sami for Syria has managed to do an incredible amount of good in the last year. The campaign quickly surpassed it’s initial goal, allowing the purchase and support of a mobile clinic. The clinic provides not only basic medical care, but psychological support services and other resources to Syrians who have been affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.

To date, the clinic has provided 8,000 medical services to Syrians in need. Zayn was recognized for his efforts with the SAMS Humanitarian Award in February, and he has continued to use his platform to advocate for funding and support for SAMS.

Recently, conditions in Daraa worsened with intensified violence causing hundreds of thousands of Syrians to flee their homes, leaving many stranded in the desert without access to food, clean water or aid of any kind.

#SamiRelief widens the scope of the original Sami for Syria ask by seeking funding for all of SAMS mobile clinics and also finding new avenues of support for existing humanitarian efforts bringing food, water, baby formula, and other needed supplies to these displaced citizens.

In addition to this new fundraising effort, Zayn had promised to match all donations made to #SamiRelief for his birthday.
