Impact Wrestling Power Rankings: Is It Madison Rayne’s Time?
2. Su Yung- Knockouts Champion
At some point, I’m going to have to write an article about why Su Yung is THE best character in wrestling right now. Notice how I didn’t screw around by saying “one of”. She’s the best. Right now. Like, currently. Because the common denominator in her vignettes or matches with Rosemary, Allie, or Rayne is her. This whole “Undead Bride” gimmick is something that is equally fascinating and creepy, and I consider her work must-see.
No, I don’t care that there are better wrestlers, and I certainly don’t care if all you want to do is compare her to the Undertaker. I’ve heard the criticisms, but they pale in comparison to the product that I see each week. The decision to put the Knockouts Championship on Yung at Under Pressure couldn’t have looked any better in hindsight.
1. Austin Aries- Impact World Champion
Now THIS is the Austin Aries that I came to see. THIS is the Austin Aries that can sell Pay Per Views, put butts in seats, and deliver one-liners that get a massive amount of play on social media. Aries’s win over Pentagon Jr. at Under Pressure was as much of a roller-coaster of a match as I’ve seen this year, and the audience has been rewarded with the cocky, hateable, but oh-so-entertaining version of Aries that we’ve been craving for at least a year.
I can’t seem to pick against Aries at Slammiversary, in spite of the fact that Moose/Williams are a partnership now. It’s just hard to see someone defeating a man who is firing on all cylinders and is clearly capable of being THE building block for Impact Wrestling.
