Last year, NXT revived the WarGames match for the first time in twenty years. This November, WarGames is set to return and punctuate yet another Takeover event at the Staples Center.
NXT announced today via their official Twitter page that last year’s hit NXT Takeover WarGames is back, and tickets for the event will be on sale this Friday, July 20th.
Last year’s event was a stellar surprise to most fans, as we hadn’t seen a WarGames match in nearly two decades, and the match itself was easily one of the best matches NXT produced in the year 2017. The Undisputed Era, SAnitY, and The Authors of Pain with Roderick Strong stayed inside the two rings for over thirty minutes, and the match exhibited a level of brutality that made you understand why we haven’t seen a WarGames match for so long. I’m still a little bitter it didn’t win the NXT Year-End Award for Match of the Year at Takeover: Philadelphia, but that’s just me.
Now, of course, the stage is set to see another grueling match inside the cage in a few months. Notably, two out of the three tag teams featured in last year’s match have been called up to the main roster, which calls into question how exactly NXT will be booking the match for this year.

NXT isn’t out of factions, however. As of recently, last year’s WarGames winners The Undisputed Era have been feuding with Moustache Mountain over the NXT Tag Team Championships. It would be curious to see if that feud will be highlighted during the next War Games match.
Perhaps Trent Seven and Tyler Bate could call upon their British Strong Style partner — WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne.
That’s all assuming WWE will be keep the theme of threes this year. It’s still very possible given atmosphere of the tag team division.
Adam Cole, of course, is also a working singles competitor and currently NXT’s North American Champion, who may be booked in singles competition for the event. However, the injured Bobby Fish may be back in time to fill in the spot.

Regardless, it makes the most sense to include The Undisputed Era in the upcoming WarGames match again because they continue to be a thorn in the side of any other tag team they encounter. Moustache Mountain is only one obvious example, but the inclusion of previous Tag Team Championship contenders Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch could also be likely. And if I could put a request in, I think Ricochet could be their perfect third.
