Possible WWE Opponents for Former UFC Champ Cain Velasquez

Former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez made a trip to Orlando to train at the WWE Performance Center recently.

This past week, WWE opened its doors to one of the greatest heavyweights to compete in UFC. Of course, Brock Lesnar did not show up on any programming this week. But that’s not the UFC legend I’m talking about. I’m talking about a guy who defeated Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship: Cain Velasquez.

During the week, Velasquez spent some time training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando. According to WWE.com, Velasquez not only spent some time in the ring, but he participated in a DDP Yoga session led by the man himself, Diamond Dallas Page.

After spending some time in the weight room at the PC, Velasquez also attended the most recent set of NXT television tapings at Full Sail University. All things considered, it was a busy few days for the former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Even though it’s kind of a huge deal to see a guy like Velasquez — perhaps the most technically proficient heavyweight striker in MMA history — just wander in to grapple with Norman Smiley, there’s probably not much here. The odds of WWE signing Cain Velasquez to a superstar contract are about the same as Triple H signing yours truly to a superstar contract.

But hey, if WWE wants us to think about Velasquez in an NXT or WWE ring, then by gosh I’ll do it. IF — and that’s a huuuuuge if — Velasquez were to end up signing, here’s some possible opponents for him.

Lars Sullivan

Say Velasquez goes to NXT first… is there any heavyweight hanging around Full Sail and the PC that you’d want to see him tussle with besides Lars?

Sullivan is a beast, and despite still being a little rough around the edges he’s definitely got “it.” And there’s nothing on this planet quite like a HOSS FIGHT, so I’d sign up for this right away.

Dolph Ziggler

The Show Off is one of the most decorated amateur wrestlers to come out of Kent State. While Velasquez is more of a striker and knockout artist, he’s still a “mixed martial artist,” and that includes literal wrestling.

Putting a terrific mat technician in there with Cain would be a spectacle. Plus, the way Ziggler sells offense, he’d make Velasquez look like a literal Incredible Hulk.

Brock Lesnar

Sure, Lesnar’s probably just about done with WWE. Or maybe he’s sticking around for more money and less dates, who knows? But as I mentioned before, Velasquez defeated Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Championship back in 2010. It was a first round TKO, and awarded Knockout of the Night honors.

Wouldn’t you want to see round two, even if it was in a pro wrestling ring and not The Octagon?

Kane

I mean, for obvious reasons. Just say “Kane” and “Cain” out loud a few times and you’ll see where I’m coming from.
