WWE Women’s Division Needs Bianca Belair as a “Fresh Queen”

WWE Creative has a key opportunity in leveraging the talented Bianca Belair. The question remains whether or not the company will push her to the levels of stardom.

The WWE women’s division is in a precarious position. On one hand, the ladies are “elevated” to a position in which the WWE has planned it’s first, all-women’s PPV event titled “Evolution” to occur later this year. Then, on the other hand, it’s the same few faces that are featured in the spotlight.

While there isn’t a magic wand available to fix everything, WWE Creative can show that there’s room for change if they book Bianca Belair from talented prospect to leading lady.

NXT has had a special type of success highlighting top prospects and elevating them to prominence when they are a part of the black and yellow brand. While that hasn’t always translated when the men and women move onto the main roster, NXT has found a way to allow for the cream to rise to the top. Belair is the epitome of said cream, especially as many have expressed concerns that the NXT women’s division is growing stagnant.

More from NXT

Belair is everything that equates to a star in professional wrestling; regardless of gender. At 5 feet, 7 inches tall, Belair has the size, power and athleticism to pull off a lot of maneuvers that don’t occur frequently in the women’s division. Look back to WrestleMania 34 where she hit a 450 splash off of the top rope.

If you need more evidence, check out clips of her reliving her CrossFit days, and power cleaning her opponents from the mat to over her head. These are just two examples of moves that can become the foundation of building Belair into a terror for her opposition in the ring.

Then, there’s her character. While it is a bit clichéd that Belair is portraying the “black girl with attitude” character; she’s doing it so well that it’s hard to ignore. Her delivery and facials during promos and while in the ring are exceptional. She gives off the vibe that she’s a champion and that’s a major part of the battle.

One thing that made Asuka’s run in NXT so special was the longevity of her title reign. While some men were getting called up quickly, she remained in NXT which allowed her character to develop as far as her wrestling abilities. With Belair, WWE Creative has the opportunity to do something very similar.

For Belair, a long tenure in NXT allows her to develop as a character and her in-ring abilities to match. That tenure should be accompanied with the NXT women’s title; making her the “juggernaut” of the division.

The question is whether or not the WWE will put trust in Belair. Hopefully they will and will push her to a status rarely seen for African American women in the promotion. Even though both Sasha Banks and Naomi have been champions recently, their reigns were widely overshadowed by those of the more “mainstream” ilk.

It’s time for something different, and just like when Will Smith moved from Philadelphia to California, Bianca Belair is the breath of fresh air that’s needed in the women’s division today.
