WWE: Reuniting American Alpha Would Be A Mistake

With Jason Jordan set to return any week now, some members of the WWE Universe are speculating that he and Chad Gable could team up to re-form American Alpha. This would be a mistake.

American Alpha was one of the better teams in recent memory. Two legitimate athletes that know every hold and have unbelievable cohesion. During the last superstar shake up, Jordan and Chad Gable were split up as a team.

Chad Gable remained on SmackDown Live for a period of time. While Jordan went to Raw to find out that he is GM Kurt Angle’s “son”. The two super athletes were a great pair. Yet, WWE should hesitate to reunite them upon Jason Jordan’s inevitable return.

There are valid reasons to be tempted to throw the two back together. Raw’s tag team division has no depth right now. American Alpha would be a team that can put on a show with anyone instantly. However, that would only be the case for a few months.

After the honeymoon phase the team would not be that hot.  Moreover, it would be a shame for them to be used as nothing more than a temporary band aid.

Reuniting teams work best when a good 3-4 years has went by. It has only been a year since American Alpha has been separated. Is there really a strong  popular demand reassemble the pair? Other than a some hardcore fans, not really.

Furthermore,  Jordan and Gable have way too much potential as singles wrestlers. Before the injury we saw Jordan coming into his own as Kurt Angle’s bratty son. Jordan was drawing some real heat that the company can run with upon his comeback. A scenario where Jordan uses Kurt Angle to get to the top would be great television. The Indiana University alumnus is 6’3 245lbs.  He is long, muscular, and handsome. The marketable look and skillset are there for him to become a future world champion.

Chad Gable is the most underrated performer in the company. Clearly not the biggest of guys, Gable knows how to pull of the most daunting power moves. He is one of those wrestlers that can get a great match out of a broomstick. The former Olympian has shown an ability to maximize his minutes when given a good opponent. Gable has produced high quality matches against AJ Styles, Rusev, and Jinder Mahal. Also, he has mic skills that has not been fully showcased.

Jason Jordan vs Chad Gable sounds a lot more appealing than a premature comeback tour for the team. This would be a fresh storyline to get invested in. These two workhorses could work a lengthy rivalry that culminates in a submission match. It feels like it has been forever since a classic submission match has been produced. It would be the icing on the cake if the I.C championship would be on the line

There is much more WWE can do with these two as individuals than as a team. Put them as opponents and the two can elevate each other. Good things happen when real life friends battle in sports entertainment.
