WWE Cruiserweight Championship Match

Cedric Alexander (c) vs. Drew Gulak

Bryan Heaton: I’ve been waiting for this match officially since the Cruiserweight Championship was vacated. While Alexander vs. Ali at WrestleMania 34 was fantastic, I wanted Gulak in that match so badly. Now that it’s here, I think it’s time for Drew to finally realize his dream of a Better 205 Live by installing himself at the top.

Christopher Jeter: 205 Live has improved dramatically since the Enzo Amore era, but they still play to the same dead crowds that are fresh off of watching a two hour SmackDown. Now, they get to perform in front of a half-full, arriving crowd at SummerSlam. They deserve better. As for this match, I’ll pick Alexander to retain and feud with Lio Rush.

Ashley Leckwold: Honestly, this is THE title feud of SummerSlam, but it’s getting relegated to the pre-show AGAIN. Ever since the Cruiserweight Championship tournament, Drew Gulak has reinvented himself as an intense submission monster with the sheen of a corrupt politician in a political thriller. Cedric Alexander has a fire lit in him that hasn’t been seen in some time and it could easily be his defining moment as a champion or could be his complete downfall. It feels too close to call, but with Gulak’s longtime rival Mustafa Ali being built up as the brand’s workhorse star, it might finally be time for Gulak’s vision of a Better 205 Live.

Joe Soriano: I love Cedric Alexander, and he’s been a great champion for 205 Live. And no, Drew Gulak, he isn’t the Brock Lesnar of 205 Live, because why would  the Brock Lesnar of 205 Live take a match against Jack Gallagher on the go-home show before SummerSlam?

That said, it’s time for a change, and Gulak is the right man to lead 205 as the Cruiserweight Champion. We need a technician running the show. Gulak’s charisma is contagious, and he’s made everyone around him more interesting. One day, Mustafa Ali will be the one to rip the title from Gulak’s grasp.
