WWE will air the second Mae Young Classic starting on Sept. 5 at 9 p.m. ET, and we want to get you excited for the tournament by profiling the women competing. Today, we focus on Kaitlyn, a former Divas Champion and the tournament’s returning superstar.

When talking about the precursor years to the Divas Revolution/Women’s Revolution/Women’s Evolution, Kaitlyn should absolutely be in the conversation. However, sadly, she is often left out.

Getting her start as a fitness model, Kaitlyn signed with WWE in 2010 and began working in FCW before appearing on NXT back when it used to be mixed with a developmental roster and a game show in season. Under the guidance of Vicki Guerrero, Kaitlyn ended up winning the entire season, beating out Naomi, AJ Lee, and Aksana.

Following her NXT win, Kaitlyn became a regular in the Divas division on Smackdown and formed a tag team with Lee known as the Chickbusters, who often found themselves in battle with Natalya and Beth Phoenix. She also formed a relationship with Derrick Bateman during the Redemption season of NXT in 2012, but that didn’t continue past the show.

Becoming known for her rocker vibe and her intense Spear, Kaitlyn really rose into the spotlight though when she began her pursuit for the Divas Championship against Eve Torres, eventually winning the title at the 20th anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw.

The victory was not long lived though because she soon found herself at odds with Lee for the title and was even victim to her mind games involving Big E, who was then a bodyguard to Lee, pretending to be a secret admirer. The two became involved in a heated rivalry that went back and forth for months and resulted in the first ever Divas Championship contract signing on TV. Before there was Lee and Paige, it was all about Lee and Kaitlyn.

Her rivalry with Lee eventually ended in a SummerSlam mixed tag match between her and Dolph Ziggler and Lee and Big E in 2013. She did eventually rejoin forces with Lee at SummerSlam that year against the cast of Total Divas in a losing effort. In January 2014, she ended up leaving WWE after one final loss to Lee.

Since leaving WWE, Kaitlyn has been involved in the world of fitness again and even started her own fitness clothing line Celestial Bodiez. She re-entered the world of wrestling earlier this year at Coastal Championship Wrestling against Mae Young Classic participant Rachel Evers, but the MYC will be her official return to WWE. In fact, she was the first participant announced.

In a video interview for the Mae Young Classic, Kaitlyn admitted that she was excited to see how different things have been since she left. “Seeing how far the women have come in just the time that I left is such an amazing feeling and I’m so proud to just be a part of it…”

While it has been four and a half years since Kaitlyn has been in a WWE ring, her experience and trials through the later years of the Divas division cannot be discounted. In fact, she just might end up spearing her way through the tournament, both figuratively and literally.
