WWE Raw: What Lies Ahead For Kevin Owens?

What lies ahead for Kevin Owens on Monday nights? Did he just turn face? Where could the Prizefighter be headed to?

If Kevin Owens does not eventually return as a babyface, it would be one big wasted opportunity. The Prizefighter, despite putting on a brave effort against the Intercontinental champion last night on Raw, shocked the fans by saying he quit the WWE. Owens would begin the segment with a heartfelt promo about how turbulent the past summer has been for him.

Owens would discuss the beating he took at the hands of the Monster Among Men as well as missing his best friend Sami Zayn. He contemplated and lamented about the misfortunes that struck him throughout the summer and discussed how he does not have a title with him. Though Owens turned the promo into a chorus of boos eventually, one had to wonder what it was all about.

Throughout his entire program with Braun Strowman, I often felt like the Prizefighter was sort of a babyface. I mean Strowman was literally chasing him around arenas all over, coming up with innovative ways to make Owens’s life a living hell. All that can easily break a man. After his foiled attempt to capture the Money in the Bank contract from Strowman, a heartbroken Owens was determined to make a statement at the expense of Seth Rollins.

Following yet another loss, Owens sat in the ring and uttered two words after many moments of contemplation and self-doubt. Owens had signed a five-year deal with the WWE so obviously, this is a storyline work in action. But one simply has to wonder what the endgame is. A small thing I noted was a nod of respect from Seth Rollins as Owens was still recovering in the ring. Moreover, Kevin Owens the wrestler, did not use any underhand methods throughout the entire match.

An entire segment was built over his storyline progression and WWE has posted three different videos on their YouTube channel to ensure the fans get the gist of it. Something is definitely in the works here. A face turn would have been a nice change of pace as that is something that we have not seen out of KO during his time in the WWE. But then again, there is a very noticeable lack of a lead heel on Monday nights.

It is so severe that creative might have turned Braun Strowman into a heel once more for the sake of filling that gap. If Owens were to take a page out of Mark Henry’s book he could just show up a couple of weeks later mocking everyone in the process. Or creative could stick with the organic flow of the story and portray him as a bad guy turned good, who is seeking redemption.

The angle can play out much like Sami Zayn’s road to redemption and when the Prizefighter eventually goes back to his heel ways, Sami Zayn can make a red-hot babyface return to confront his best friend and kick-off another epic chapter in their never-ending saga.
