Samoa Joe Winning The WWE Title Is A Necessary Outcome

Samoa Joe will once again challenge the WWE Champion AJ Styles at Hell in a Cell this Sunday. We take a look at why it is an absolute necessity that Joe wins the title when the night is over.

Samoa Joe will face the WWE Champion AJ Styles this Sunday at Hell in a Cell. Though the match will not take place inside the signature structure; it will not lack any animosity. Joe has been coming up with innovative ways to get inside Styles’s head by bringing the champ’s family into the equation.

This almost backfired during their first outing at SummerSlam when Styles snapped and assaulted Joe with a steel chair, bloodying and wounding the Samoan Submission Machine. As we approach Hell in a Cell, both of these men are sure to turn up the intensity both inside and outside the ring. Their promos from this week’s SmackDown Live were clearly a sign of both competitors turning up the heat and intensity. However, Joe took it to another level with his creepy bed time story.

Styles will no doubt try to retaliate for Joe’s words and threats. However, when one observes the current landscape of SmackDown Live, Joe needs to win come Sunday night. Not only is it the best outcome, but rather, it is a necessity at this point. As much as Styles has worked to make ‘The B Show’ into ‘The Show’, the time has come for him to move on to something else. His 300 plus days reign with the WWE title needs to end come Sunday night.

The Champ That Runs The Camp has done everything one could possibly hope to do at the top of the division. It is now time for him to set sights on something else or possibly take a peak at Monday Night Raw during the next Superstar Shakeup.

Joe on the other hand has much more to offer at this point in time. A quality heel champion at the top is always a sight to see. Samoa Joe can be just that. His take no prisoners attitude outside the ring and no-nonsense ring-style will make up for an intimidating villain who will hold on to the strap into WrestleMania and perhaps even beyond. Imagine another Superstar Shakeup happening post WrestleMania and say someone like Finn Balor comes knocking on the doors of the Land of Opportunity to reignite his rivalry with Joe for the WWE title.

More from SmackDown

In the mean time, Joe can cultivate classics against the likes of Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy and even a fan favorite like Tye Dillinger. The locker room will be put on notice as the Submission Machine tightens his clutch over the Blue Brand with every passing week, reigning at the top of the division.

Styles on the other hand can move on to a number of programs with the WWE title off of his shoulders. Assume that Randy Orton actually manages to erase the Enigma this Sunday, he would be out looking for a new target. While I had suggested earlier that he should set his sights on Daniel Bryan, Styles would make up for a nice babyface who can stand up to Orton. Imagine a beaten and battered Styles being attacked by Orton as he address the fans the following weeks. Styles matches the bill of a ‘hero of the fans’ too. These two men can create some good matches with their contrasting styles at least until Royal Rumble.

After this, creative can even think about rekindling Styles’s feud with Shinsuke Nakamura, over the United States title this time. If Nakamura drops the title by then, AJ can still set on a quest to claim it for himself. Regardless, even without the WWE title, AJ Styles has much to offer to the WWE universe and a lot of that involves fresh storylines and feuds, which is always a welcomed sight. Samoa Joe on the other hand needs the WWE Championship right now more than ever. His reign of terror on Tuesday nights needs to commence right away.
