Rey Mysterio Should Make Surprise 205 Live Appearances
We’ll Get To See Even More Incredible Rey Mysterio Matches
To this day, Rey Mysterio’s matches against the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, and Chris Jericho stand as some of the greatest matches in WWE history. Even at 43, Mysterio is still capable of jaw-dropping feats of athleticism, as evidenced by his performances this year in the Royal Rumble and the main event of “All In”.
On SmackDown Live, Mysterio would compete on a talent roster that includes Jeff Hardy, Daniel Bryan, Shinsuke Nakamura, Andrade “Cien” Almas, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Randy Orton, and Shelton Benjamin as singles competitors. There’s more than enough elite competition for Mysterio to sink his teeth into, and fans are already salivating at the potential matchups.
But as wrestling fans, we’re always selfishly speculating at what else could be out there. So why wouldn’t we ponder seeing Mysterio vs. Buddy Murphy? Or how about Mysterio vs. Alexander? Mysterio vs. Ali? Gulak? Itami? Lio Rush? Heck, Mysterio vs. TJP would be a clinic.
WWE has the most loaded talent roster in wrestling, and it isn’t even close. NJPW’s top five is probably better than WWE’s top five, and STARDOM’s best wrestlers are still on another stratosphere, even without Io Shirai and Kairi Sane. But in terms of depth, nobody tops WWE.
If I were WWE, I’d “flex” on that depth a little bit. Mysterio can’t wrestle too frequently and needs breaks, but it’d be cool to see him tear down the house against Itami or Ali once in a while. Yes, it’s a selfish wish, but these matches could add to Mysterio’s legacy and reward loyal network subscribers who have stuck with 205 Live.
