NXT UK: Toni Storm vs. Nina Samuels

Toni Storm ends up on this list twice, and it is remarkable how good she is at getting the crowd fired up during her matches. I must, however, admit my bias with this selection, because I have a tendency to enjoy matches between wrestlers I’ve regularly watched at Pro Wrestling: EVE.

Call it nostalgia or favoritism for a smaller promotion I’ve enjoyed watching, but while you do that, watch this match. Because even though it isn’t lengthy, you can still see how good Storm is and signs that Nina Samuels just might be the most underrated heel in all of wrestling.

Seriously. I can’t get over how awesome Samuels’s character is, because she’s just so full of herself and so cheap. She starts the match by trading holds with Storm, but when she sees that she just isn’t as technically gifted as Storm, she slaps her in the face in response. It’s cheap, harsh, and oh-so effective.

Storm, of course, doesn’t mess around, because she can play that game, too. She responded by slapping Samuels in return not once but twice, and she followed that up with a big kick to send Samuels sprawling in the corner.

In EVE, Samuels was known for playing to the crowd, as she had some truly amazing clapbacks and insults. There was just no way for the audience to get one over her, and she was always willing to let her feelings about the hostile crowd be known. We saw a brief snippet of that during the match, as she started mouthing off to a fan after a nearfall.

Samuels vs. Storm could have gone on for longer, but hopefully NXT UK is saving their best work together for down the road. There’s so much talent in the NXT UK women’s division, and this was a solid way to get fans excited for what’s to come.
