WWE Top 5 Promos Of The Week: Becky Lynch Brings The Fire, Mustafa Ali’s Road
SmackDown Live: Becky Lynch Owns Edge
Despite being one of the most beloved superstars in WWE history, Edge just couldn’t outshine Becky Lynch. At this point, nothing can stop the beast that is the SmackDown Women’s Champion, who somehow gets more over by each passing week.
I guess I shouldn’t say “somehow”, because it’s pretty easy to understand why Becky is so popular if you’ve been watching WWE programming for the past year (or, at least, since SummerSlam 2018). Ever since Becky took matters into her own hands by betraying Charlotte Flair after her SummerSlam loss, she has set the tone on SmackDown Live as perhaps the biggest reason to tune in to the show on Tuesday nights.
As a pure babyface, Becky’s promos were fantastic, and she did a great job of capturing the spirit of competition while mirroring exactly how an athlete would respond to a loss (albeit in a more emotional way that can resonate better on a wrestling show).
But as a tweener, Becky has been even better, carrying herself with her head held high and making the most savage remarks at everybody. Dismantling Charlotte Flair? Check. Dissing WWE’s posters? Check. Making fun of a legend’s legitimate career-ending neck injury and getting cheered for it? CHECK.
Right now, Becky is on another level, and hopefully WWE took notice of her ability to absolutely take over a segment involving a WWE legend. Edge wanted to tell Becky how to think, but Becky “loves” herself and isn’t about to change her ways for some faux sense of “goodness” that is ultimately worthless. She wants to be champ, and she isn’t about to blindly follow the advice of someone just because they’re a legend.
