Mixed Match Challenge: Rusev Thinks He’s Playing Basketball

The WWE Mixed Match Challenge has some of the most underrated promos in wrestling, and we saw the likes of Carmella, Big E, Sami Zayn, Becky Lynch, Braun Strowman, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and The Miz entertain fans with some hilarious promos in the inaugural edition of the tournament.

There have been fewer gems in the Mixed Match Challenge 2, but this promo by Rusev and Lana certainly qualifies as one of them.

It all begins when Kayla Braxton catches up with Lana and Rusev after their loss to the undefeated tandem of The Miz and Asuka. She asks them what’s the reason behind them being 0-for-2 in the Mixed Match Challenge, and Lana promptly says, “I suck,” before leaving without acknowledging Braxton or the camera.

Rusev and Lana have been through a lot due to Aiden English’s behavior, which, if it occurred outside of kayfabe, would have led to him being fired. He’s made it more difficult for them to focus on the Mixed Match Challenge, and Rusev now has a match against English on the next episode of SmackDown Live.

After Lana leaves, Rusev addresses Braxton’s question and explains that Lana is being too hard on herself. He then starts referencing literally every sport possible to state that Miz and Asuka outplayed them and that things didn’t go their way. Rusev said that their “forecheck” was strong, they were outrebounded, they threw too many interceptions, and they hit the post frequently.

“It’s just part of the game of basketball, you know.”

Well said, Rusev. Well said.
