Pro-Wrestling EVE Take a Stand Against WWE by Streaming Free Show
By Laura Mauro
With the unwelcome news that WWE are forging ahead with their Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia, it’s reassuring to note that there are promotions out there who are not only willing to speak out against WWE’s moral cowardice, but to put their money where their metaphorical mouth is. Step forward, Pro-Wrestling EVE.
The British-based all-women’s promotion has never been one to shy away from making their collective voice heard, and so the news that Pro-Wrestling EVE will be streaming a free event during the live WWE broadcast should not surprise anyone familiar with EVE’s explicitly punk ethos. Acts of demonstrative resistance are very much within EVE’s purview as a promotion.
Details surrounding the event are sparse right now, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be excited. Pro-Wrestling EVE have quietly been producing the best women’s wrestling outside of Japan, and arguably some of the best wrestling full stop, regardless of gender.
Pro-Wrestling EVE pour passion and sheer punk energy into every show they produce, and their loyal, vocal following seems to expand with every outing. And what sets EVE apart from so many other promotions is its uncompromising attitude towards social and political issues – EVE are not a company who’ll sell their soul for a payday.
And their progressive attitude is apparent in the meat and bones of every show: women of all shapes and sizes get equal dibs on kicking butt, and the presence of several openly LGBT wrestlers is just part and parcel of what EVE does.
But EVE ain’t here to preach. They’re here to put on a bloody good wrestling show. EVE’s stellar alumni includes legit stars like Nikki Cross, Toni Storm, Meiko Satomura, Jazzy ‘Alpha Female’ Gabert and even Paige. And their current roster is just as impressive: Charlie Morgan (she of the Kota Ibushi-esque balcony swanton), Kay Lee Ray, Emi Sakura, Rhia O’Reilly and Sammii Jayne are just a handful of EVE’s brightest stars.

EVE is not afraid to push boundaries, either. Thumbtacks, ladders and tables are all fair game, and this year’s WrestleQueendom event kicked off with an insane War Games Steel Cage match.
The promotion’s all-female roster and feminist ethos has garnered comparisons to GLOW, but it’s a long way removed. Don’t believe me? Watch Kay Lee Ray and Sammii Jayne beat the tar out of one another, or Sammii and Rhia O’Reilly go all out in a street fight, and tell me women can’t do ‘extreme’.
And lest you think this is all just a marketing ploy on EVE’s part, it’s worth noting that the promotion poured their energy into supporting WWE’s recent Evolution PPV, even going so far as to ask fans to consider re-watching Evolution if EVE’s free show does not appeal to them. Wrestling is not just a business venture or a cash cow to EVE: it’s a passion project. They care about women’s wrestling.
If you’re new to Pro-Wrestling EVE and want to see what all the fuss is about ahead of Friday’s free show, you’re in luck. For a short while, EVE have uploaded the entirety of their sold-out WrestleQueendom show on YouTube. The aforementioned War Games match is an exercise in insanity, while a hard-hitting, relentless bout between Kay Lee Ray vs Meiko Satomura still stands out as one of the best matches I’ve seen this year.
There’s also a dream clash between Viper (Mae Young Classic’s Piper Niven) and wrestling legend Aja Kong, as well as a killer main event starring future legend (and current EVE champion) Charlie Morgan – a surprisingly emotional match which also showcased EVE’s ability to tell a compelling, long-term story, and to absolutely nail the emotional payoff. As Daily DDT’s own Harmony put it:
"…when Charlie finally (FINALLY) pinned Sammii after a brutal exchange of suplexes, I cried a bit. It is inspirational to watch someone achieve things by the strength of their heart, and I was so happy it was Charlie Morgan who had done it. What a match, what a main event, what an ending. Well done, Wrestle Queendom."
With an epic She-1 event due to kick off in early November, there’s never been a better time to take a chance on EVE – or a better reason. Support your local girl gang, stick it to unethical business practices, and treat yourself to some of the best wrestling on offer today. What’s not to love?
