#1: John Cena

Now, I know what you’re thinking. John Cena doesn’t deserve to win the 2019 Royal Rumble.

John Cena hasn’t been in WWE enough this year to warrant a Royal Rumble win. Cena has done it all in WWE, he doesn’t need this push. Cena doesn’t need a third Royal Rumble win.

While those are all valid concerns, just here me out.

John Cena would be the most compelling Royal Rumble winner in years.

Right now, as I’ve mentioned before, WWE could be in some trouble when it comes to making WrestleMania feel special. The company may have just pulled one too many rabbits out of there hat this year for the show to rival what we have already seen.

That’s where John Cena comes in.

While we have seen just about everything to see this year already, we have yet to see much from John Cena recently. After last year’s WrestleMania, Cena has been largely absent from WWE this year.

That means Cena returning to world title contention at WrestleMania will actually feel like the surprising return WWE is currently missing for this coming year’s show.

That fact alone isn’t just enough to validate why I feel Cena is the best bet to win the 2019 Royal Rumble though. It also comes down to the quality of rivalry, and the enormity of the match, that Cena may find himself in if he wins the Royal Rumble.

No matter who John Cena fights, he will be looking to break the illustrious record of most world championship reigns in company history that is currently held by Ric Flair. That record, and what it represents, will likely want to be protected by some of the stars of the company. I’m specifically looking at AJ Styles or Daniel Bryan.

Both Styles and Bryan could easily be framed as wanting to prevent Cena from erasing Ric Flair’s name from that impressive record. Both superstars also have a storied past with Cena.

A match with AJ Styles, if Styles were to regain the WWE Championship from Daniel Bryan before WrestleMania, would carry with it an insanely impressive history of five star matches and red-hot feuds.

Similarly, Cena and Bryan also have significant history, with their SummerSlam match still held in high regard to this day. That’s without even mentioning the potential personal tensions that could come from Cena and Bryan’s relationships with Brie and Nikki Bella. The amount of storylines that could be developed from that aspect alone is immense.

All in all, I believe John Cena, no matter how unexpected it is, may be just be the best, and likeliest, person to win the 2019 Royal Rumble given the sheer amount of great storylines available for WWE if he were to pull off an unexpected win.
